In C-ommunity

In C-ommunity

A year ago, we set out to prove to ourselves that we could safely maintain our creative lives during the pandemic. On May 7th, we’ll celebrate the one-year anniversary since we started broadcasting these weekly concerts with our 47th show (yes, we’re exceedingly proud of this accomplishment)!

We've chosen In C by Terry Riley as the piece for this anniversary show, the same piece we performed last year when we began this journey, this time performed by 45 players that have performed on our series this past year.

Your support has allowed us to provide a paying gig during a time of furloughs and shuttered venues. To date, we’ve paid $45,000 to our performers, for which we are GRATEFUL! If you want to continue the good feeling that donating brings, we make it easy to do so here.

At the heart of this effort to stay creative is a passionate desire to do our part to make the world a better place by serving the spiritual needs of our community through music. Especially at times of great upheaval and anxiety, we want to show our community and the world that artists will always create, and that Portland is alive with creative energy.

Our two remaining concerts in April showcase great virtuosity and variety, with Greg Ewer and Adam LaMotte setting their powdered wigs on fire with some Leclair on April 23rd, and James Shields, Emily Cole, and Maria Garcia bringing us a French musical connection on April 30th.

Creativity Amidst Calamity has been our motto for this season, and nothing makes that point better than the incredible number of works we've presented this past year, listed below. Through a combination of grit, determination, and creative hustle, we’ve shown how creativity is ALWAYS available, no matter the circumstances.

Executive Director, 45th Parallel Universe
