Gratitude
Our 2021-22 season is one of Gratitude… for the blessing of being able to play safely together, for the fellowship that only live music can provide, and to our amazing audience and supporters for showing us the love during this unbelievable year in which we produced 54 online concerts.

Garden Concert #1
Our cello octet dazzled us last year with their online performance, and we can’t imagine a better way to start our garden series than with a live performance of their stellar cello-osity.
Garden Concert #2
Arcturus WindsRichard and Penny Ellson’s amazing garden on the Willamette River provides a spectacular setting for the Arcturus Quintet’s program of French and German music. Please note that access to the performance will require patrons to use a stairway down to the garden. Our volunteers will be on hand to assist those who need help.

Pyxis QuartetThe Pyxis Quartet performs music of Oregon composers Kenji Bunch and Scott Unrein, along with Béla Bartók’s high energy finale from his 4th String Quartet.

Arcturus WindsThe Arcturus Quintet brings our garden series to a close with a delightful program of musical miniatures. Please note that, due to inclement weather, the show venue has been moved to The Glass Lab. We’ll offer refunds or ticket exchanges to those of you who aren’t quite ready to head indoors for a concert.

The Gemini ProjectWe open our season with Gemini Project’s epic collaboration with PDX filmmaker Scott Ballard and BodyVox to present Shostakovich’s final symphony, arranged for sextet. The program also features PDX animator Zak Margolis’ gorgeous film Andante, accompanied by the Pyxis Quartet.

Arcturus WindsThe virtuosos of the Arcturus Quintet take us on a musical tour of the Americas, from the US to Cuba to Argentina.
Black Angels
Pyxis QuartetGeorge Crumb’s masterpiece takes us on a musical journey from the tragedy of war to a return to grace, paired in this program with the world premiere of Kenji Bunch’s new string quartet. Presented in honor of Veteran’s Day.
Collabro
Percussionist extraordinaire Sergio Carreno performs with Mike Perdue (NYC) and Leonardo Soto (Houston) for this experiment in live multi-city collaboration.
Bach in the Time of COVID
45th Parallel founder Greg Ewer shares his COVID story through the music of Bach as he brings real guts (strings) to this performance of three magnificent works for solo violin.
A Cello Nutcracker
Six brilliant cellists, one Nutcracker… after last year’s wonderful online performance, presenting this holiday classic live is the kind of return to “normal” we’ve all needed!

Arcturus WindsMind, blown! Pianist Maria Garcia joins the Arcturus Quintet for performances of Mozart’s wondrous quintet, Louise Farrenc’s exceptional sextet, and a world premiere by Brandon Scott Rumsey.
Thou Shalt Steal!
45th Parallel Chamber OrchestraFriends, we have to postpone “Thou Shalt Steal” until this current (and hopefully final) wave of COVID has passed. We look forward to presenting this concert as soon as circumstances allow us to do so.

F.O.G.As classical music continues its 21st century reboot, many deserving composers are finally getting their due. Hear two stunning pieces on their way to becoming classics, and an old favorite to boot.
Human Family
Our program is presented in honor of Black History Month, featuring works by Keyla Orozco, William Grant Still, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, and Valerie Coleman.
The Kreutzer Sonata
mousai REMIXBeethoven wrote the sonata, Tolstoy wrote the novella, Czech composer Leoš Janáček wrote the string quartet inspired by the novella, and mousai REMIX quartet will connect all three in this special program.
A Giant in the Sky
Join us for a celebration of the incredible artistry of Stephen Sondheim, done 45th Parallel style! Zach Galatis will be joined by pianist María García and the Johanna Quartet for an evening that will “make you aware of Being Alive!”
In the Dark
Pyxis QuartetIn String Quartet No. 3, G.F. Haas uses total darkness to evoke the night before Christ’s resurrection in this powerful work, performed by the Pyxis Quartet on Maundy Thursday.
Music for 4/20
Music for 4/20 is a special concert event, featuring the Modern Minimalist masterpiece Music for 18 Musicians by Steve Reich. The concert will be accompanied by lighting installations inspired by Modern Art, and incredible extras from our event partners!
Carrot Revolution
Pyxis QuartetComposers Andy Akiho and Gabriella Smith are shining stars in the new music scene, and Pyxis Quartet takes on two of their most virtuosic works: Andy’s Prospects for a Misplaced Year (with guest pianist Yoko Greeney) and Gabriella’s Carrot Revolution.

Summer Serenade
45th Parallel Chamber OrchestraBrahms’ Second Serenade is the perfect way to welcome summer, a chamber orchestra-sized study in symphonic writing that is stunningly beautiful. The program also features the world premieres of new music by Nina Shekhar and Marco-Adrián Ramos, commissioned by the Gabriela Lena Frank Creative Academy of Music.
